How Plasma TV Works

The standard idea behind the plasma tv is to illuminate small colored fluorescent lights to form images. Every pixel is made up of 3 fluorescent lights: a red light, a green light and a blue light. Precisely like a CTR TV, the plasma TV varies the intensities of the different lights to create a full range of colors.

A plasma display consists of pockets of Xenon and Neon gas assortment called plasma, which is placed between 2 electrodes. The plasma is in between 2 duplicate plates of glass similar to that of a LCD TV. The address electrodes sit behind the cells or pockets, along the rear glass plate.

Transparent display electrodes surrounded by an insulating dielectric material covered by a magnesium oxide protective layer, are mounted above the pockets along the front glass plate. Both sets of electrodes extend crosswise the whole display. The screen electrodes are arranged horizontally in rows along the screen and the address electrodes are placed in vertically in columns. The vertical and horizontal electrodes form an original grid that we refer to as pixels.

Plasma is the important element of fluorescent light. The plasma gas is made up of free flowing ions and electrons. If you introduce free electrons into inert gasses by giving an electrical voltage across it, negatively charged molecules will rush toward the positively charged area. The particles will be constantly bumping into each other and these hits charge the gas atoms in the plasma, causing them to release photons of energy. The atoms of xenon and neon gas release light photons when they are excited. The atoms mostly release ultraviolet light photons which are invisible to the human eye which in turn excite visible light photons.

The released ultraviolet photons interact with the phosphor material glazed on the inside wall of the cell like that of a CRT television. Phosphors are substances that give out light when they are exposed to other light. An ultraviolet photon hits a phosphor atom in the cell, making the phosphor’s electrons to jump to a higher energy point heating up the atom. When the electron drops back to normal level energy is discharged in the form of a visible light photon.

The phosphors in a plasma display emit colored light when they are excited. Every pixel is made up of three separate subpixel cells, each with different colored red, green and blue phosphors. The colors blend together to create the overall color of the pixel.

The control system can gain or decrease the volume of every subpixel color in plasma tv by varying the pulses of ongoing flowing through the different cells, to create hundreds of different combinations of red, green and blue colors enabling the control system fundament to produce colors crosswise the entire spectrum making television watching a much richer experience for all viewers.

Fine Brandy Festival

The Fine Brandy Festival, the only event of its kind committed entirely to the art and enjoyment of South African brandy, will present its second yearly showcase at the Sandton Sun hotel.

The full spectrum of the brandy industry’s accomplishments, from masterfully crafted potstill brandies to couture cocktails, will be on exhibit at the Sandton Sun from 25-27 May 2011. Themed continuity in change, the Fine Brandy Festival brings together leading distillers, small, single-estate brandy makers and Gauteng’s brandy lovers at a sumptuous yet sophisticated gathering at the five star Sandton Sun hotel.

Not only can visitants nose and sip their way through a collection of potstill and vintage brandies, latest brandy cocktails will also be on everybody’s lips, according to Ielanda Koen, director of the South African Brandy Foundation. “The buzz words at this year’s Fine Brandy Festival promise to be the avantgarde cocktail and the brave new world of molecular mixology.”

Cutting edge culinary art – which draws on the explorations of molecular gastronomes and culinary deconstructionists – will be paired with adventurous cocktails and presented at special masterclasses and live presentments.

The aim at Fine Brandy Festival is to unveil progressive brandy-based drinks that make people rethink how tastes and textures, especially classic combination’s, can work together. Our world-class brandy industry is underpinned by arguably the most exacting and strict regulations anywhere in the world. Every year South African distillers have delivered from the UK with a cache of gold medals from the Worldwide Wine and Spirits Competition and the International Spirits Challenge.

For the second year in row and for seven years since 1999 a South African brandy has won the title of International Best Brandy. South Africa’s spirit drink of pick (selling 50% more than its nearest competitor), brandy has a consumer profile which closely mirrors the key South African demographics. While still skewed towards male people, brandy consumption amongst women is increasing rapidly. At present, 25% of brandy drinkers are women, where cocktails with mixers seem the consumption style of pick.

In line with global trends, the SA market has seen a substantial shift towards premiumisation, as consumers covet craftsmanship, luxury and provenance. Innovative new products, such as white potstill brandies draw a new generation of hip and trendy 20-somethings to the family at this year`s Fine Brandy Festival.
